Now that was interesting. I was sure that Instagram would never reveal to me a Corona liftback owner, but within seconds I found @ashleyantilles and her perfectly-preserved flashback of the early 80s. Not only that, she 's practically a neighbor. Small world.
Marcia is the original owner of this ultra-rare '74 Corona two-door sedan and she has made the most of their time together. This car is so rare that I didn't even know that this body variant existed until a few days ago. Even the internet shrugged at me. But I managed to find Marcia's rad little car for sale in the Tuscon area. Go check it out! tucson.craigslist.org/cto/5902599665.html
Eighty percent done! With @bastian.v8tattoo's Corona coupe checked from the list, I've finished 210 different Toyota variants in my quest to illustrate every Toyota ever sold in the US.
I was super close to buying one of these a few years ago and I regret not snatching it up. No worries, because I can just drool over @bachmania's beautiful coupe, which is nicer than would have ever been anyway! Number 207 in my quest to illustrate every Toyota sold in the US, just another 54 to go!
Little did I know when I began this illustration that I was replicating the art of someone whose style is of constant inspiration to me. (Did that even make sense?) I needed a 2nd-gen Corona wagon to slot into the 185th slot in my draw-every-Toyota project and this sweet little creature, owned by @the.max.fish, is decorated by none other than @pinstripe_chris. That explains why I LOVE IT! Street art style intertwined with the Rising Sun layered over a beautiful metallic brown... perfection.
Staying local today, fellow Portland resident @markpanic brought his old RT105 for a few photos. It's got a 3S-GTE swap pushing 330hp at the rear wheels and wears some pretty SSR Longchamps. It leaves long black stripes.
I'm helping @pakandcheese imagine an end game today. His RT93 (I know, I know, a accidentally drew an RT95) is sitting unfinished in a friend's yard, with most of a year's dust on the faded paint. To be fair, he has plenty of other projects ahead of this one, but I couldn't help but feel a little frustration on his end. Andrew, I hope this lights a little fire under your ass.
I gotta get me a vintage wagon, cause after every one of these illustrations I have to clean the drool from my computer. And @captain_key1s even has two sets of SSRs that he seems to swap in just about every other photo. Sweet ride, Greg, props!
